Florida is home to some amazing roadside eateries, some of which can be found at Roadside Peek's Sit Down Restaurants Florida.
The Majestic Restaurant of Alexandria, VA still sits open for business along the roadside.
The Southern Grill of Knoxville, TN looks to still be in business serving up food to hungry travelers.
Where else can you get good oysters other than at a place called The Pearl? The marquee for this restaurant also lights up a night.
It is a hopping shame this place sunk. All that remains of the Ellis Restaurant are traces of neon frogs which once must have jumped across there marquee. The defunct eatery is part of a row of boarded buildings along Chestnut Street in Chattanooga, TN. Directly across, is the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel where guests have the opportunity to sleep in converted railroad cars.
Check out Country's Barbecue in Columbus, Georgia. At one time, this was a Trailways Bus Station that was slated for demolition. The sign kept the original "Air Conditioned" neon work from the old sign (located near the bottom). The owner of Country's parked a 50's bus against the restaurant and opened a doorway between them to allow patrons to eat on the bus itself.
Here's a closer look at the great marquee out front the Simple Simon.
If you follow Route 9 into Downtown Spartanburg you will see two classic diners across from one another. Simple Simon, by all accounts, seems closed. A weird googie looking ball is mounted above the front door.
A fancy tee pee themed location is the Tee Pee Restaurant. Based near the Smoky Mountains National Park, stop by this roadside treasure when you're in the area and grab some eats. This business was still going strong in 1998.
