No-Tel Motel
Tucson, ,AZ

The No-Tel Motel has become a Tucson landmark of sorts. The motel was first built as the De Anza Motel in a Spanish revival-style along the Miracle Mile. Its cool name depicts perhaps a more sordid past. Apparently the owners changed the name to the No-Tel after the area starting changing once the I-10 bypassed the Miracle Mile. The No-Tel is still in business in 2020 but no tell. 11-20

UPDATE : The No-Tel Motel was purchased in the fall of 2022 by the city with the intent to turn the historic motel into a homeless shelter and affordable housing for older adults. 06-23

Phoenix, AZ

Here's the Palomine Inn located at 1520 W Van Buren St in Phoenix, AZ. This old sign c called out travelers to stop and rest for the night, competing with several other themed motels for the all important business. The Palomine Inn has been closed for many years and the sign was taken down a long time ago. 11-20

The Phoenix Sunrise Motel at 3644 E Van Buren St has a decent sign and a mid century looking motel building. Unfortunately this motel no longer looks the same these days. 11-20
