Hacienda Motel
Yuma, AZ

The Hacienda Motel has been serving Yuma since 1958. Check out the eye-catching roadside motel sign off the highway. The top of the sign features what looks like sharks teeth on top of the sign. It appears that the teeth where multicolored back in the day and actually looked more like surfboards.

This motel is located across the street from the iconic Yuma Cabana Motel. 11-20

Check out the Thunderbird Apartments in Phoenix AZ. The Thunderbird features a cool sign advertising color TV on its sign. I don't believe this place is still around but not sure. 11-20

Check out the marquee and building for the Travel Inn 9 Motel, once upon a time located in Phoenix, AZ. The motel looks like it was once part of the Imperial 400 chain which was founded in 1959. The motel locations were typically two story buildings with “gull wing” shaped roofs over the lobby similar to this location. 11-20

Desert Gem Motel (Gone)
Gila Bend , AZ

Travel down Gila Bend's main drag Pima Street just below the turn of the century, you will be greeted by several roadside motels not to mention the iconic Space Age Lodge.. The Desert Gem Motel is on of the old vintage motels with a fantastic sign. The sign features flags on top of it not to mention a curvy arrow and colors date that date back at least 30 years (from 1999 when these photo were taken). The motel itself dates back to at least the 1950s.

Unfortunately, the Desert Gem did not last too much longer. The motel is now gone. A Circle K now stands at the former site of the Desert Gem. 11-20
